What is Mental Health First Aid?

Older Adults Mental Health First Aid is a public education program that introduces the risk factors and warning signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders, builds understanding of their impact and reviews common support options. The eight-hour course focuses on the unique experiences and needs of adults over the age of 65. It will give you the skills needed to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and connect them to appropriate professional, peer, social and self-care.

Who Should Attend?

This community-based education class is intended for people who work with or care for older adults. Please note, this class may be too basic for those who work in mental health services.

Contact hours are available.

Lunch will be provided free of charge.

This class, valued at $170 per person, is sponsored and funded by Minnehaha Communion Lutheran Church and Fairview Community Health.
